Year 2005: Lincoln, Nebraska Daily Temperature Departures From Normal:
"How Normal is it to be Normal?"

CLICK on the above graph if you want to see a much larger size.

Each day's temperature departure from normal is plotted on the above graph.
Positive numbers mean above normal and negative numbers mean below normal.
If the daily temperature was normal there would be no extension above or below the zero line.
It can be clearly seen that being "normal" is NOT normal with the temperatures in Lincoln
consistently being well above and well below normal.  In late January there was a day that was almost 30 degrees
below normal and in February and October there several days exceeding 24 degrees above normal.
Year 2005 was a warmer than normal year by years end as can be noted by the fact that
there are many more days with departures above the normal line compared to days below the zero or normal line.

In summary, Lincoln had, in Year 2005,
16 days that were normal (16/365 = 4.4% of all days)
212 days that were above normal (212/365 = 58.1% of all days)
137 days that were below normal (137/365 = 37.5% of all days)

Day most below normal: January 15, 2005:  29 degrees below normal
Day most above normal: February 5 & October 4, 2005: 25 degrees above normal
