On November 17, 2003 a tornado occurred near Weeping Water, Nebraska
(Cass County).
The primary region experiencing tornadoes November 17 was in southeast
Texas and it is not that
unusual for that part of the country in November. Tornadoes in
Nebraska, on the other hand are quite rare!
This is ONLY the 3rd time that we have recorded a tornado in the state
of Nebraska during the month of November.
The another two times were November 2000 and November 1956. This
is not the latest ever recorded tornado however.
On December 13, 1975 there were two F-2 tornadoes, one in Pawnee County
and the other in Thayer county.
The back side of the thunderstorm that generated the tornado just east
of
Lincoln in Weeping Water, Nebraska.
Look carefully above the red pickup truck and just above the power
lines and a
small funnel can be seen. The sky is clear in the upper right
portion of the photo but
it is near sunset (hence the darkness).
