Nebraska Vortex Intercept Team
May 17, 2000 Storm Chase

As the cell continued to grow, it merged with the warm front to the north but maintained a fairly pronounced structure with strong rotation and strong updraft into the mesocyclone.
Mammatus were forming directly overhead, scud clouds were rapidly rotating around the mesocyclone and there were several attempts to build a funnel downward from within the wall cloud.
Off to the south, another developing thunderstorm got our attention.  Noting that the storm in front of us appeared to be weakening and moving into the cold air to the north of the warm front, we chose to pursue the developing cell off to the south.
