Photographed by Matthew Sittel of the Air Force Weather Agency, Offutt Air Force Base.

Matt writes: These hail photos were taken May 4, 2003 from our back yard.  We live 3 miles south of Offutt AFB near the intersection of US75 and Platteview Road. The largest stone I picked up was 3.5" diameter (first photo). Note that this was taken about half an hour after the stone fell... so it probably melted a little.  This fell about 4:25pm CDT... total duration was about 2 minutes of the very large hail; we had 1/2" to 3/4" diameter for a longer period. We were fortunate not to have any damage, save for the dent in my wife's car.  Some of our neighbors were not as lucky though, with broken front and back car windshields, skylights, and
damaged house siding.
