A
tornado rips through Lincoln County in southwest Nebraska Wednesday evening.
Tornado
clean-up
Officials
say at least two tornadoes were spotted near Moorefield and another moved
through the Brady to Maxwell area.
There were two injuries reported as a result of the tornado, and hay bales
were tossed across the highway.
Farm homes were in
the path of a
twister that cut
a quarter-mile path
through Lincoln County
in Nebraska.
Authorities
say all the homes that were damaged were along Mcpherson Road from about
a mile south of Fort Mcpherson National Cemetery to six miles southeast
of the cemetery.
The damaging tornado reportedly was on the ground for nearly 20 minutes,
traveling about eight miles from near brady to just south of Maxwell.
Lincoln County Emergency Management Director Deb Bertrand says the damage
is stunning. She noted farm equipment was destroyed, at least 50 power
lines were downed, four vehicles and a house were destroyed.
Kerry Teetor, Operations Manager for Dawson County Public Power, says several
power lines and poles were down south of Brady, in the area around Jeffrey
Lake.
Several crews worked all night, attempting to restore power. Teetor says
some areas around Jeffrey Lake could be without power until tomorrow.
Gothenburg, which draws power from the Jeffrey Lake Hydro-Plant, was without
power for approximately 30 minutes this evening, until their power source
could be re-routed.
Bertrand says a better assessment of losses would be made in daylight on
Thursday. Right now Bertrand says three out of six homes in the tornado’s
path were destroyed.
