Late Afternoon, Monday, December 11, 2000
The temperature was only +5 F, but the slope at Holmes Lake  was busy with kids of all ages sledding. The westerly winds had blown most of the snow on the dam over to the east side.
Note the blowing snow across the top of the dam, winds were peaking at 35 mph with -40 wind chills. The sun is to the left over the tree with a "sun dog" off to the
right.  It is caused by light refraction in the ice crystals in the atmosphere and is typical of arctic air masses.
