DECEMBER 1998:  A LATE ARRIVAL OF WINTER

Early December saw temperatures well above normal for much of the U.S.  Afternnoon temperatures in the 60's across Nebraska as shown on the map on the right for December 3, 1998 were more typical of early Autumn.

Winter finally arrived, as noted on the December 22, 1998 temperature map to the right,  with temperatures falling well below normal for much of the U.S.  Temperatures in the 60's were now replaced by below zero readings across the state.

Lincoln's first snowfall of the season came with this cold wave and this was the SECOND LATEST EVER MEASUREABLE SNOWFALL.
