Drought Conditions in the High Plains Region - Update January 3

Drought conditions continue throughout the High Plains Region. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the total area of severe drought (D2) or worse conditions are holding steady at 86.20% of the Region. The area with moderate drought (D1) conditions in the Region also remained the same at 93.01%. Wyoming has had drought conditions worsen since our last update. The area of extreme drought (D3) or worse increased in the middle portion of the state to total 64.23%. Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota all had conditions remain the same or within 1% of the same as our last update.
